The design opportunity

In the  industry we talk a lot about the significance of the first impression but when it comes to air travel, airports often forget about the importance of the last. There are many design solutions, services, mobile apps and gadgets to make the experience at the different stages of flying better and smoother.  But even the biggest redesigning campaigns tend to forget about the lonely baggage pick up stage.
"So how is baggage claim still such an unpleasant experience almost every time?"
If we look at the whole user journey, the experience of reuniting with their checked-in luggages is the parting gift we send our passengers home with. It is like hosting a fancy dinner party and then kicking them out without their shoes.
My experience of arriving back home from our summer vacation to Arlanda airport made me realise that even a few design tweaks would make such a huge difference in the general experience.
